The Five Elements: Knowledge, Concept, Skills, Action, Attitude

Making the PYP Happen in Domuschola Int'l School

". . .the goal of teachers and children is the same, to find meaning in their work . . ."                                                                                                                     - Lella Gandini

I came across this quote when I was trying to read the PYP blogs I found in Google (I’m not cheating!). A blog by Allison Camire, a PYP teacher, really deepened my understanding of what an inquiry-centered approach is all about.

Funny as it sounds, learning is a two way process. “You learn from me and I learn from you.” That is how I perceive a good teacher should always think. Now, with regards to a teacher within this inquiry-centered program called PYP, what is our role?

The teacher’s role in an inquiry-centered classroom is absolutely critical. It takes practice. It takes patience. It requires a willingness to try new things, fail, reflect, revise, redeem and repeat. For this blog, I want to share how teachers in the PYP should be commended and appreciated for their in-depth planning and fortitude to ensure that the learners in their classroom become an evidence of the five elements: Knowledge, Concept, Skills, Action & Attitude. This is how we can make the PYP happen.
